Position Summary:
The Pipe Field Engineer supports piping installation, testing, and production activities within a shipbuilding or heavy industrial environment. This role serves as the technical liaison between engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure piping systems are installed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and applicable standards. The position is heavily field-focused, requiring daily interaction with craft labor, supervisors, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide on-site technical support for piping installation, routing, and fit-up in accordance with construction drawings and specifications
• Interpret and work from isometrics, P&IDs, spool drawings, and 3D models to support production teams
• Interface with design engineering to resolve drawing discrepancies, field conflicts, and constructability issues
• Support work package development, including material verification, scope breakdowns, and installation sequencing
• Monitor field progress and assist with schedule adherence, identifying and mitigating potential delays
• Coordinate with quality control and testing teams for hydrostatic testing, flushing, and system turnover
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, company procedures, and regulatory requirements
• Assist with redline markups and as-built documentation to reflect field changes
• Participate in daily production meetings and provide updates on piping-related activities

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered
• 3+ years of experience in piping, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial construction
• Strong understanding of piping systems, installation practices, and fabrication processes
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including isometrics and P&IDs
• Familiarity with shipbuilding or marine standards (ABS, NAVSEA, or similar) is a plus
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Navisworks, or similar tools preferred
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment

Work Environment:

• Primarily field-based in a shipyard or industrial setting
• Exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and active construction areas
• Must be comfortable working around heavy equipment and at various elevations
